Nilgiri

Dark and Aromatic

Tea has grown in the Nilgiri Blue Mountains in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu since the late-19th Century. Legend has it that the first tea bushes of Camellia sinensis (var. sinensis) were planted there by the Chinese sent to the Western Ghats to settle on the plateau of Naduvattam. The high altitude combined with fragrant Eucalyptus trees grown in close proximity to the tea gardens gives Nilgiri tea its dark colour, intense flavour and aroma.

This season's single-estate: CRAIGMORE PLANTATIONS, WINTER FROST TEA

Cultivating and manufacturing since 1884, Craigmore Tea Estate expands over 1200 hectares of pristine tea gardens in the Nilgiri Blue Mountains. The estates' sustainable cultivation and manufacturing practices have also been recognised by the prestigious Rainforest Alliance.
Harvested in the coldest months of the year, Nilgiri frost tea is actually one of the few teas grown in winter in India, the top leaves of the frost-covered bushes picked only after the coldest winter nights.

Our Classic Tins aim to promote a handful of tea gardens from Assam, Darjeeling, Kangra and Nilgiris and bring the consumer closer to the producer of their daily tea. #KnowYourTea
